HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL UNAPPROVED MINUTES Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Members in attendance: Shirley Abend, Edwin Degen, Roxanne Golder, Wayne Golder, Norman Kubbe, Katie Lee, Ann Leeck, Gary Parkham, Dennis Schultz, Linda Shapter, Carol Wright, and Dennis Ziesman. Also present were incoming members, Ken Habermehl and Ted Townsend, and Pastor Kitzman. Meeting was called to order by Wayne Golder at 7:25 P.M. Dennis Ziesman gave an opening prayer. Motion to approve agenda was made by Carol Wright; 2nd by Linda Shapter. Motion carried. Communications: Requests for donations were received from radio station Promise FM and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. A letter was read from Bishop John Schleicher, on behalf of ELCA Synod Council, acknowledging Hope’s decision to disaffiliate with ELCA and become a member of the NALC, as well as Pastor’s Kitzman’s decision to resign from the ELCA roster and become rostered with the NALC, and thanking Hope for its past support. Also, a letter, composed by Dennis Schultz, was read which was sent on behalf of Hope Church Council to ELCA, transmitting final benevolence contribution. Secretary’s Report: Minutes of November 7, 2011, were corrected to reflect that a request from Joyce Bruski Clark, a nonmember, for a burial plot was approved. Motion to approve minutes, as amended, was made by Gary Parkham; 2nd by Dennis Ziesman. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Carol Wright. Motion to approve was made by Dennis Schultz; 2nd by Katie Lee. Motion carried. Pastor’s Report: Pastor shared information regarding a new product to benefit those serving in the military, a tiny portable device called a Bible Stick which contains audio of the New Testament and sells for $25. Donations are being sought for these devices, which will be distributed through military chaplains. Committee Reports: -Decorating, Linda Shapter: No report. -Cemetery, Ed Degen: No report. -Youth, Katie Lee: Attendance has been low. Activities include fundraising by sale of calendars, shoeboxes for military personnel, and an upcoming pizza party. -Outreach, Norman Kubbe: Thanksgiving dinner was successful with over 75 meals served with donations received of over $600. Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University program had 12 graduates. -Women of Hope, Shirley Abend: Christmas party held. Throughout 2011, $7,500 has been donated to Build Hope and other area charities and community organizations. -Memorial/Historical, Dennis Ziesman: No report. -Worship, Roxanne Golder: No report. -Altar Guild, Dennis Schultz: No report. -Stewardship/Finance, Carol Wright: Committee met recently and approved the payment of an additional $15,000 on mortgage principal from the Build Hope Fund. Church credit cards will be acquired for Pastor and Diane. -Building & Grounds, Wayne Golder: -Education, Gary Parkham: No report. -Ushers, Ann Leeck: No report. -Membership, Shirley Abend: No report. Old Business: -Temporary Transition Task Force: Met December 11. Next meeting is Sunday, January 8, 2012. New Business: -Election of Officers and Trustees for 2012 Council: President, Katie Lee; Vice-President, Carol Wright; Secretary, Ann Leeck; Treasurer, Carol Wright; Trustees: Wayne Golder, Gary Parkham, Linda Shapter, and Carol Wright. Committee appointments: -Worship, Ken Habermehl -Membership, Ted Townsend -Women of Hope, Edwin Degen -Date for installation of new Council members: January 8, 2012. -Thank-you’s to outgoing members Roxanne Golder and Shirley Abend and welcome to incoming members Ken Habermehl and Ted Townsend.
